Day 07: 1st Time – Only Vim for a Webpage

To build “The Odin Project’s” Landing Page assignment I tried to only use Vim and see what it is like. It was actually not too bad. I definitely need to add some short codes for HTML open and close tags but overall it was pretty good. The best part was editing the contents inside paragraph tags and the CSS properties super quickly. Switching tag values with a simple substitution was great as well. While I was navigating around the CSS document I noticed how useful searches are. Most of the time I know what I want to edit but getting to it wastes time with scrolling in other IDEs. The “find” feature is not as seamless when compared to Vim. I can’t wait to get my hands dirty with some more practice. Getting these reps in!!!

TLDR;

Okay, so here are the highlights of what I did:

  • Practice -> Finished working on the first project in “The Odin Project”. The project was to build a landing page with HTML and CSS. I set up the Git Repo. The assignment doesn’t require the site to be responsive but I want to make sure I add that feature now before I move on.

Goal For Round 7 of the #100DaysofCode Challenge

This is my seventh round of the “#100daysofcode” challenge. I will be continuing my work from round five and round six into round seven. I am currently working through the book “Cracking the Coding Interview” by Gayle Laakmann McDowell. My goal is to become more familiar with algorithms and data structures. This goal was derived from my goal to better understand operating systems and key programs that I use in the terminal regularly e.g. Git. This goal was in turn derived from my desire to better understand the fundamental tools used for coding outside of popular GUIs. This in turn was derived from my desire to be a better back-end developer.

I have no idea if my path is correct but I am walking down this road anyways. Worst case scenario I learn a whole bunch of stuff that will help me out on my own personal projects.
